Cómo funciona el WPT
Pese a nacer en pleno siglo XXI y no contar con el prestigio de las WSOP, el World Poker Tour ha encumbrado ya a algunos de los mejores jugadores de póker de la historia. Así es como se ha consolidado como una referencia en la industria:
- Formato principal: No-Limit Texas Hold’em, con estructura que puede dividirse en varios días y con eventos preliminares.
- Buy-in principal: Varía ampliamente. Los Main Events suelen tener precios de entrada sustanciales (de 3.300$ a 10.400$, incluso superiores), dependiendo de la sede y la categoría.
- Cobertura y producción: Los torneos se transmiten en vivo o en diferido por plataformas oficiales de WPT, redes sociales, YouTube y canales especializados. También se publican resúmenes, entrevistas y análisis de manos importantes después de cada evento.
- Ranking Player of the Year (POY): Se otorgan puntos según posición final, tamaño del torneo y número de participantes («field»). Al final de la temporada, quien acumule más puntos se lleva el título de POY y reconocimiento internacional.
